Hugo 2011 Movie Named as ‘Best Film’ by the National Board of Review

Hugo, a fantasy adventure mystery film which hit the big screen on November 23rd, 2011, was picked by the National Board of Review as the year’s best film and they even consider it as an unusually kid friendly choice which they are sure to add further intrigue to the Oscar Hunt.

Hugo is set in 3D and it was mainly based on the novel entitled “The Invention of Hugo Cabret” written by Brian Selznick. The film was directed by Martin Scorsese and written by John Logan. It stars Asa Butterfield as Hugo, Chloe Grace Moretz, Ben Kinglsey, Sacha Baron Cohen, Ray Winstone, Emily Mortimer and Jude Law.

Hugo tells the story of Hugo Cabret, a 12-year old orphan who lives secretly in the walls of a train station in Paris and looks after the clocks. With the help of a weird and mysterious girl he just met nearby the train station, he searches for the answer to a mystery linking the father he recently lost, the ill-tempered toy shop owner living below him and a heart-shaped lock.

Aside from the story of the film, the NBR also picked Martin Scorsese as Best Director for his whimsical film which is set in 1930’s Paris. Hugo 2011 Movie is the first film in 3D done by Martin Scorsese. However, the film has this concept of bringing the audience back to the early days of cinema and the wondrous films of French filmmaker George Melies. You just don’t know if you will be sad or be happy while watching the movie, but one thing is for sure, that this movie is for the whole family to watch and enjoy. The other films which were also given the same credit with Hugo are “The Descendants”, “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2”, “The Ides of March”, “Tree of Life” and “War Horse”.
